Mahinda has warned Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa that Major General Shavendra Silva was likely to become another Fonseka and to therefore keep a close watch in him.
The President had made this point when the Defence Secretary had sought Presidential approval to allocate a land and a house in Colombo to Shavendra Silva.
At the same time, the President had loudly said that Sarath Fonseka was made the Army Commander due to a request made by the Defence Secretary. Several senior officials who were at the venue had heard the President's remark.
The President had further noted that he had sent Shavendra Silva overseas since he had tried to become a hero through the media like Fonseka.
However, the Defence Secretary had remained silent when the President had made these statements before the senior officials.
