Despicable Me 3D
Just got in from watching Despicable Me 3D at the new Central Shopping Mall and really enjoyed it. It's yet another quality animated movie but it got me thinking about 3D movies in general. Now I realise it's risky to knock new technology but for me 3D in it's current guise is nothing more than a gimic that adds Bt100 to the ticket price. At times, it's a distraction and one things for sure, 3D won't turn a crap movie into a good movie.
Regardless of your feelings about 3D, the major TV manufacturers have decided we are having it. 3D models are already being shipped to showrooms around Asia. If the broadcasters swicth exclusively to 3D then the manufacturers will make a killing and we will adapt to 3D whether we want to or not.

Blatter Balls Up
Good to see Sepp Blatter apologising in the press for results affected by incorrect calls from referees. Bad calls that could have been avoided if HE as the head of FIFA had approved goal line technology. Let's face it, technology works well enough in cricket, tennis and rugby so why not football. Paraguay had a good goal disallowed against Spain and there were a number of other incidents in the run up to the last four that could have changed eventual results. You would think that getting the right result would be a priority for Blatter. Obviously not.
But that's not Blatter's biggest balls up. That's reserved for the Adidas Jabulani football. A football introduced to make life more difficult for goalkeepers and thereby lead to more goals. What it's actually done is humble some of the biggest names in football. Even Ronaldo can't keep the thing below crossbar height. When this World Cup's over the stats will probably show more mis-placed passes and fewer long range shots on goal than in any other World Cup. It's all a joke and FIFA and Adidas will close ranks and claim the ball was a success. They can do nothing else or somebody might have to take the blame.
It's also worth noting that leagues sponsored by Adidas, and that includes the Bundasliga, have played with the Jabulani throughout the 2009 - 10 season. This is hardly a level playing field when many other teams didn't get to play with the Jabualni until the start of the World Cup.
Related articles by Zemanta So we have a head of FIFA who is more interested in new techology for balls than ensuring that the team that scores the most legitimate goals actually wins the game. How do these people get in to positions of authority?

British tourists told to cover up....
Salou, on the Costa Dorada, became infamous earlier this spring after thousands of British university students descended on it for the annual Saloufest. Newspapers in both Britain and Spain gave columns of coverage as the festival descended into anarchy, with hordes of drunken and scantily clad students in the streets.
New by-laws introduced by the Salou Town Council stipulate that members of the public who violate the ban will be fined between €100 (£81) and €300 (£245). Those caught drinking alcohol on the streets or having sex on the beach could also be prosecuted. Beachwear will be banned from all but beachfront bars and restaurants.

Ed. Be great to have similar cover up laws in malls and restaurants in Pattaya.

New Pattaya Post Office
I received a card in my mail box last week advising me that I had registered mail to collect from the Post Office. In the past, this has always meant a trip to the Naklua Post Office but this card clearly stated that I had to go to the new Pattaya City Post Office. Where?
One phone call later I found out that the new Pattaya City Post Office is on Sukhumvit about 1km from the Floating Market. You have to drive on Sukhumvit towards Sattahip until you reach the Floating Market. You then take a u-turn and drive approx. 1km back towards Pattaya. You will see the new Post Office on your left side. Look out for the flags.
Hard to figure a stranger location for a new P.O. for the residents of Pattaya. In fact, the Naklua P.O. will be closer for many. Hard to figure but could have much to do with who formerly owned the land now occupied by the new P.O.

Qatar Airways expansion program includes Phuket
Qatar Airways today announced its expansion programme was continuing with vigour with plans to launch six new routes in Europe and Asia from October 2010. The Doha-based airline will phase in the route expansion over a four-month period with daily flights to Phuket - after Bangkok, its second destination in Thailand - kicking off the growth drive on October 11. The new flights will operate via Kuala Lumpur.
Three weeks later, beginning November 1, Qatar Airways adds the Vietnamese capital Hanoi to its network with four flights a week via Bangkok. The new route will support existing services to Vietnam's commercial centre and largest city of Ho Chi Minh City, where flights will also be stepped up from four-a-week to daily.
